Warnings: Swearing, violence, and teenagers.
Other notes: I should add, it might help to read chapter 21 as a refresher for this chapter.

Mrs. Daffs: Well that was indeed a very enlightening presentation. I'm sure we all learned something about the effects of non-organic chemical plant pesticide on sim biology. Thank you, Greta.

Mrs. Daffs: And thank you those who were paying attention. And not distracted by your handheld game devices.

Mrs. Daffs: Raven.
Raven: I wasn't distracted. I...
He could see from Mrs. Daffs' stone-faced glare that there would be no point explaining that this wasn't just another LT Decahedron XS. It was crudely modified to be able to act as a messaging device. Just another way for Raven to keep track of what was going on when he was stuck in these useless classes.

Though he had to admit, the classes weren't all that useless. Not that he was incredibly interested in Greta's possibly plausible theory that chemical pesticides could adversely affect sim's molecular DNA (and it wasn't anything new to Raven, he's heard all of that before). Greta also had the advantage of being pretty hot.

Raven had no idea what they were giggling about. But he was content to just sit here and watch the back of her head until the end of class.

He'd wave to her and her friends after class, but was pretty much ignored, or groaned at.

He wasn't sure why he'd get that kind of reaction from girls he interacted with. It didn't bother him too much, and it definitely didn't slow him down. Wren would say the pursuit of women was a waste of his time, which was probably true.

But it was impossible not to notice them.

Unfortunately, he'd get noticed too, and it wasn't quite the attention he wanted.
"Marlen!"

Raven: Oh. Hey Lucas.
Lucas: Shut your mouth, Marlen.

Lucas: Heard you were staring at Greta in class. How many times do I have to tell you that you come off as some weirdo pervert freak when you do that.

Raven: Dude. She sits right in front of me. Where the hell am I supposed to look?
Lucas: You know what I mean.

Lucas: This is the last time I'm gonna hear about you perving out at Greta again, because I'm kicking your ass.
Raven: Wait what? You? Are going to kick my ass. I'm hearing that right?

Lucas: What you didn't hear me or are you a fucking idiot?
The locker doors clanged loudly as Raven was shoved up against them hard. He straightened himself, lowered his face and smiled smugly.

Raven: No, seriously. Tell me you're going to kick my ass again.

Lucas: Let me make myself clear then. Next time I see your ugly face outside of school, you're fucked. You're gonna cry like a baby if you're even conscious by the time I'm through with you. Got it that time, Marlen?
Raven: Yeah, that sounds like a threat to me.
"Threat indicated. System armed."

"BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEEEP..."
Lucas: What the hell is that???!!
His inquiry was drowned out by the piercing alarm that sounded through the hallway.

"BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEEEEEEEP..."

The electric bolt fired from the machine, zapping the unsuspecting student. For good measure, it fired off a couple of more times.

Raven: Heh. Awesome.

Everyone in the hall watched stunned as Wren Marlen casually walked in, the Sentry Bot's remote in hand.

Raven: Hey, you got it working. Wicked.
Wren: It needs a few adjustments. It still doesn't have sentient functionality as advertised. I have to control it by remote.
Raven: So you're the one who fried Lucas? Thanks bro.

Wren: Don't thank me, Raven. Your capacity to get into situations like this is proving pretty helpful in testing some of these complicated devices. I should probably e-mail tech support, not sure how to turn this off...
Raven: Just goes to show. You don't mess with the Marlens.
Wren: Really? You're actually going to use that idiotic catchphrase?

Headmaster Ryan: Wren and Raven Marlen!!!
Wren: Crap.

Wren: Suspension and a disciplinary review!

Raven: Yeah, Mom's gonna throw a fit.
Wren: "Bringing an armed weapon onto school grounds." What is this even? There's nothing dangerous about that Sentry Bot.
Raven: Well, it kinda did turn Lucas into a pile of goo. That was pretty hilarious.

Wren: Doesn't matter. Mom and Dad will freak out a bit, but this is actually pretty advantageous for us.
Raven: What really? You want to get kicked out of school?
Wren: I'll tell you about it later. It's actually a pretty good plan. I think.

Melody: What happened this time, guys?
Raven: Oh hey! Melody!
He nearly missed her, sitting there in the middle of her friends who were looking on disapprovingly.

Melody: I heard a huge robot went on a rampage and tried to kill Lucas. And that you guys had something to do with it. I'd normally think that someone might've been exaggerating, but I figured if the Marlen brothers were involved, it's a little more believable.

Raven: Nah, Lucas is just being a bit of a weenie about the whole thing. But yeah, robots are pretty awesome.
Melody: Not quite what I was getting at, Raven.
Wren: The headmaster already made us pretty late for our mission, Raven. We gotta get going already. Time's of the essence.
Raven: Yeah sure, Wren. It's all cool.

Melody: You're on a mission now?
Raven: Yeah. Got the intelligence in this morning so... uh... yeah. We'll be doing that.
Melody: You're not getting in any more trouble, are you?

Raven: Trouble? Nah. We've done this kind of stuff before. Not a biggie.
Wren: And it's top secret, Raven.
Melody: Is this what you were chatting online with me about last night? Stalking your Uncle's new girlfriend? Whatsername... Clara St. Something...?
Wren: Dammit Raven.

Raven: It's surveillance. We're not exactly stalking her...
Melody: Ok, sure, whatever. Hey, mind if I come along?

Raven: Um... well... this is kind of a sensitive mission... and you shouldn't ditch your friends, you know...
Melody: Oh they'll be alright. But there's only so much celebrity gossip I can listen to today and I don't really want to go home yet.

Melody: I promise, I won't get in the way. You've practically told me about the whole thing anyway.
Raven: Well.. I guess it's cool...
Wren: Raven!
Melody: Whatever, Wren. It's not like you guys are doing anything important anyway.

Wren: I should let you know that I'm highly disapproving of your company right now, Melody.
Melody: Well consider that I'm not hanging out with you, Wren. I'm hanging with Raven.
Wren: Raven, I'm taking your share of the payment if Melody compromises the mission...
Raven: Wait a minute you can't do that...

Melody: Seriously? How difficult is it to hide in the bushes until this lady gets home?
Raven: We're not exactly doing that. This time.
Melody: What, are you actually going to break in to her apartment?

Wren: Shush. You'll ruin everything if you keep talking.

Wren: We have possible obstacles. If we're going to do this, we'll have to get through security.

Melody: That's the custodian. Not security. You're acting like this place is a fortress.

It didn't take too long to distract the custodian away from where they needed to be. She smiled and nodded, clearly not seeing the three teenagers as any kind of threat.
Melody: Tell me again why you're here?
Wren: That's on a need-to-know basis.
Melody: I actually kind of need to know if you're going to do something stupid.
Wren: You know you can go if you want.
Melody clicked her tongue exasperated and walked away.

Raven: Dude, you could lay off her a bit. She's only trying to help.
Wren: You're dense if that's all you think she's doing.
Raven: What do you mean?
Wren: Ugh. Never mind. There's the balcony. If we could get up there...

Raven: Why does that look higher than I remember?
Wren: Hmm. This will be challenging. I wish the Headmaster hadn't confiscated the sentry bot. It could have easily flown up there.

Raven: Who needs robots. I can climb this, no problem.
He grabbed hold of the vines, still dormant and dry from winter. Carefully, he started to climb.

But the vines couldn't hold him and he wasn't able to get a decent grip.
Raven: Ow. That didn't work. There's not enough I can grab hold of.

Melody: Oh you guys.
Wren and Raven looked up, surprised to see Melody's head sticking out the window above them.
Raven: Hey! How'd you get in there!

She flashed him a mischievous smile.
Melody: Good old fashion pickpocketing.

Wren was a little peeved, but reluctantly, he followed Raven to the front door and walked right in.

Melody: So here we are. Just someone else's condo. It's small, and kind of smells funky for such a nice place. But I don't think there's a lot of places to bury dead rich husbands. So in other words, she doesn't seem suspicious at all.

Melody: Look. The only reason why I lifted the keys to this place is because I didn't want either of you to kill yourselves trying to scale the wall. So now that we've seen the place, let's not touch anything and leave before someone catches us.

Raven: Hold on, we just got here. We have to inspect the place a little more thoroughly.
Melody: Right. So there's all her chotchkes and doodads. How old is this lady again? She decorates like a grandma.
Wren: Listen. Jasmine wouldn't put us on this assignment if she didn't think that something was seriously suspicious about this woman.

Melody: Oh right, of course there has to be tonnes wrong with the lady who's dating her filthy rich dad. Guys, it's like human nature or something. Nobody likes when their recently divorced parents start dating someone else. Your cousin is just overreacting.

Melody: And you want to know what I think? I think she's being a brat if she had to "hire" you two to do something this illegal.
Raven: Well in all honesty I don't really think Jasmine thought we'd get this far.
Melody: So why are you doing it?
Raven: The simoleons would be nice.

Raven: And who knows. Maybe we will find something. Clara has some really weird antiques.
Melody: The only thing that says about her is that she's one of those antique fiends.
Raven: I wonder what's in these jars...

Melody: Raven, nooooo!

Raven: What?! What did I do?
Melody: Okay, I was wrong about the dead bodies. Those aren't jars, those are urns. Cremation urns.
Raven: You mean there are two dead people on her shelf? That's weird isn't it?
Melody: It's creepy but it's not that weird. I don't think you should touch those, that's really kind of disrespectful.
Raven: Can't be that bad after breaking into this lady's place.
Melody: Well its disrespectful on a whole new level then.

She tried to go further into why Raven should be leaving these things alone when she heard a loud banging noise coming from the bedroom, where Wren was.
Melody: Wren? What is he doing?

She ran off toward the bedroom, hoping Wren wasn't making too much of a mess of the place.

Raven looked around cautiously, waiting for Melody to disappear into the other room.

He understood what Melody was trying to say. He just had a strange hunch about these...

Melody: Oh my god, Wren?!

Wren: Don't concern yourself with this, Tinker. I'll put everything back. She won't ever know we've been here.
Melody: I don't really mean to doubt you. Except I kind of do.

Wren: Absolutely no reason to. We're professionals.
Melody: Professionals at what? How many times do you do this?
Wren: You'd be surprised.
Melody sighed and turned her head. Oddly enough something on the shelves above the desk held her attention. The bottles, jars, books and other items on it kind of looked familiar. But not in a good way.
Wren: Ah ha!!!

Melody and Raven rushed over to Wren. He was peering into the darkness of the closet. Somehow he managed to push over the clothes rack to reveal what looked like a passage way.
Wren: They always hide these in the closet. Don't they know this is the first place we look?
Raven: I know right? Amateurs.
Melody: Wow... I mean... okay, so what, there's a door to... somewhere... in the closet. That doesn't mean anything.
Wren: Let's go.

There was a lone light bulb emanating a dim glow, enough to light the way as the kids made their way down into the hidden cellar.

Melody: So she's got extra storage space. Doesn't make her evil.
Raven: It's actually what she's got hidden down here that might make her evil though. Maybe this is where she keeps the rest of the bodies.
Wren: Come on, even I doubt that she's a mass murderer. Look there's a bookshelf over here...

Wren: Hmm. Strange choice of reading material...
Melody looked around cautiously leaving the boys to examine the bookshelf in the corner. In the darkness she thought she heard something. It sounded like a vent fan.

She started to walk through the corridor. If it were completely dark, it would have been hard to see where the corridor lead to. She definitely wouldn't have known that it turned a corner at the end.

She continued walking, following the very slight breeze. At the end of this hallway there was also a faint glow of light.

Melody knew that this was getting a lot creepier than she'd have preferred. At this point, she was actually getting curious. Were Wren and Raven actually on to something?

She reached the end of the short hall. Turning another corner there was a room sectioned off by heavy drapery. There was another smaller room to her right seperated by a rusty chain link gate.

Melody pushed the gate gently. It creaked loudly but it swung open.

Melody: Okay. This is weird.

Melody knew enough about what her mother did to recognize all of this. These books weren't common. There were strange vials, jars and bottles here containing a variety of odd smelling powders and concoctions. And that was definitely a wand. She knew what a wand was and what it could do for a magical being. Melody never wanted to be a witch, but she could probably explain half this stuff and what it all did better than most full fledged witches.

And if that wasn't enough...

...Melody decided to peek behind the curtain to the other room.

More witch stuff, Melody realized. This could only be a summoning chamber.

But this was definitely nothing like her mother's summoning equipment. The vibrations here were strong and none of it felt good at all. It was at this point Melody actually wished she could remember all her mother's warnings about the dark side of magic.

Raven: Melody there you are... whoa.
Wren: What the...? Melody, I think you hit the jackpot.
Melody: No.
Her voice was small and wavered with fear.
Melody: No guys, we have to go.

Melody: I think we should leave right now.

Wren: What? No way, we just found this place. This is pretty much all the evidence Jasmine needs. She was actually right about Clara!

Melody: Yes, she is. But it's even worse than that. Come on, we need to go!!!
Panicked, she rushed past them.

Raven: Melody?!
Wren looked closer at the device in the summoning circle in front of him. Was that what he thought it was...?
Wren: Raven. Holy shit, I think we found the Ressurect-o-nomitron.
Melody: GUYS COME ON!!!! I REALLY MEAN IT!

Melody's urgency got to them. They raced upstairs after her but stopped in their tracks as the front door flew wide open. The owner of the condo stepped into her home.

Clara: What is this?! Who are you???
She gasped, clearly taken by surprise, the magic aura suddenly appearing around her, blazing brightly.

Melody didn't have too much time to think. Her mother had always insisted she keep a few of these on her. A young girl like her could never have too many defenses. She was only glad she didn't leave them in her other jacket like she often did.
She pulled out the vial from her pocket.
Melody: Guys, don't breathe!

Melody threw the vial down as hard as she could. The moment the glass broke, the liquid formed a cloud. Clara did not expect any of this and before she realized she had gasped in a lungful of sleeping gas.

Clara essentially had no idea what hit her as she blacked out completely. The kids ran past her, making their escape.

Raven, unfortunately had been a little slower to react to Melody's order not to breathe. He had managed to smell some of the stuff before he'd run out and now he was feeling weird.
Melody: Oh no, Raven, I told you not to breathe it in.
Raven: What.. *cough*... just happened...?

Melody: Never mind that now! We need to get out of here!
Raven: Whoa. I feel funny.
Melody: Dammit.

Melody grabbed him by the hand and pulled him along, following Wren as they raced outside.

They ran for a few blocks before Raven started to really stagger. Melody held on to him, trying to help him keep moving but at a point he was just weighing down on her more.
Melody: Wren, stop!!!

Melody: Raven breathed too much in. He's about to crash.
Wren: Are we safe here?
Melody: I don't know?

But it was no longer up to them to make the decision to stay or leave. Raven, too heavy for Melody to hold on to, slipped out of her grasp and collapsed to the ground.

Melody: Raven, I'm so sorry!
Wren: You seem to know a lot about all that stuff in that basement.

Melody: Really, Wren? You want to get into that now?
Wren: Yes now! How am I supposed to trust you? I don't even know what you did to my brother!
Melody: It's a sleeping gas, Wren, and it might have saved your life! My Mom made it. Yes, Wanda Tinker, the woman you've been dogging all year about being a witch? Well she's a witch. Happy???

Wren: And all this time you knew and you didn't think to mention it? This is why you're going after Raven, to throw us off your trail? I knew you and your family couldn't be trusted.
Melody: You're joking, right??? I gave you discounts at our store for crying out loud!

Melody: Wren, my mom might be a witch, but she's a good witch. That lady we left back there. She was a Dark Witch, and those are the dangerous ones. Not us!!! And for your information, I'm not a witch. I'm not out to get you, I don't have ulterior motives. I hung around your brother because believe it or not, I really like him and right now I'm more concerned about trying to wake him up!
Raven: Well you know...

Raven: ... maybe a little kiss would help?

Melody: God, Raven. I was being serious!
Raven: So was I. It works in all the fairy tales.
Melody: Yeah but the Princess is usually still asleep. And you're cute but you're no princess.

Raven: Heh. You really think I'm cute?
Melody: Raven, I don't think this is the time...
Raven: Oh come on. You already said you liked me.

Melody: Well I thought you were knocked out... anyway. I'm glad you're okay.

Wren: Can this get any more gross? Melody, we'll settle this later. But we need to go.
Raven: Okay, okay. Just a sec, I grabbed this back there and its getting kinda heavy...

Raven: Here, hold on to this a minute...
Melody: RAVEN!!!

Date: 2011-05-03 05:42 am (UTC)SUSPENSE! OMG! Clara was walking up the steps and I was nearly screaming NO GET OUT YOU DUMMIES!!! haha. Thanks for the massive entertainment. I will most likely re-read later when I am more coherent. :P
ETA: oh, and also, the keys were hilarious xP I seriously busted out with a HAH...! before clamping my hand over my mouth (husband is asleep).
ETA(again): dammit I cannot spell at 2am. >:(

Date: 2011-05-03 05:50 am (UTC)I actually was on tenterhooks for awhile there when Clara showed up. I was like GET OUT GET OUT NOWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Melody seems to be smart and good at thinking on her feet, good thing she was with the boys!
I'm super curious as to who/what is in the urn... any hints? :D
no subject
Date: 2011-05-03 07:12 pm (UTC)As for what was in the urn.. well, I won't say who/what's in the urn for now. The boys will figure it out. If only they had a relative who could communicate with the dead. >_>

Date: 2011-05-03 06:08 am (UTC)Oh my God this was great! And hilarious! Wren and Raven are my absolute favourites besides Jasmine. I'm pretty excited that you're starting to work on the spin-off. I have a feeling it's going to be great, Wren and Raven are such great characters I bet it's going to be fun to write out them more often.
I bet Jasmine's going to get surprised when she hears what Wren and Raven found out about Clara. I don't think she expecting them to find out about anything at all. Haha, it's funny how Wren and Raven thought she actually "hired" them. I suppose it's good though that they did 'cause otherwise they wouldn't know about Clara. I can't wait to see what happens next! :)
no subject
Date: 2011-05-03 07:17 pm (UTC)I agree Raven and Melody are cute together. And I think I'll definitely have fun with the spin-off, so if Melody and Raven continue on, it'll be there. :D
Jasmine was probably expecting the boys to do something but no she probably did not expect the news to be as big as this. The boys were definitely "destined" in my story to reveal Clara's true identity. :)
Thank you for the comment!

Date: 2011-05-03 06:15 am (UTC)(At least, I would assume that's Lettie on the basis of the red hair? Your skins seem to agree more with her chin than mine do. She looks great!)
I wonder whose remains those are, and how they can use them as "evidence"--anyone they show those to will probably just assume it's some relative of Clara's. But if anyone can figure out what to do with them, it'll be Wren and Raven (and Melody!).
Also I believe that Raven/Melody might be my new OTP :)
no subject
Date: 2011-05-03 07:20 pm (UTC)They'll figure out what's in the urn, with a little help of course. That will also be an interesting chapter to write.
And I'm glad I'm not the only one that love Raven and Melody together. They're still kids though and Raven is actually a romance sim (believe it or not, lol) so we'll have to see if they can go on. :)
no subject
Date: 2011-05-03 07:35 am (UTC)Aaaaanyway, onto the actual story. It was fun having it focus on Raven and Wren instead of the rest of the characters. I agree that it was a good idea since this is pretty important. I was seriously worried for them there for a bit. I wouldn't put anything past that bitch of a witch. :)
no subject
Date: 2011-05-03 07:25 pm (UTC)I actually had plans with the rest of the crew for this chapter, but I realized it was best that it just concentrate on this part instead of dragging on. It is important, simply because everyone after this point will know who Clara is and Clara knows it too. You're right not to put anything past her. She is pretty pissed off.

I wonder if Clara will remember the teens when she wakes up, I bet she's going to want to get that Urn back. Looking forward to the next update :)

Date: 2011-05-03 07:29 pm (UTC)I was worried that the posing would be difficult, but as soon as I found the right animations, I was good. I didn't even have to download new poseboxes too! :D
Clara and that Urn have an interesting relationship. More on that later. ;)

Date: 2011-05-03 11:34 am (UTC)Anyway, it's awesome to have her back, and to have the next generation ready to pick up the story where the previous leaves it, when Willow becomes a dusty Miss Havisham from staring into her mirror for decades, Adrian finally leaves his closet and go find his Wothington, and Jasmine finds a real man and has 10 children because she has to spread her awesome genes.
It was nice and long too, we got to see a lot of Clara-DIAF's place. Your buildings always look so good, I like to open the doors and go down the hallways along with the characters. And that was some kick-ass basement 8D
tl;dr: thanks for posting, that was great, go Melody!!!

Date: 2011-05-03 07:35 pm (UTC)I probably don't need any more Sims for this highschool right now, but there may be other scenes down the line that I may need more extras for. I'll probably use the ones I have or open up another casting call, so no worries about going through the extra trouble. Thank you very much though!

Date: 2011-05-03 02:15 pm (UTC)Well, I seriously hope Melody goes and tells her mom. At least then the good witches will be onto Clara.
Oh, and the sentrybot was brilliant. All that delaying gave Wren the time to zap Lucas, when Raven really thought it was going to be voice -activated. Priceless.

Date: 2011-05-03 08:46 pm (UTC)Melody will most likely be telling her mother about Clara. At least Jasmine may soon know and it'll justify her hating Clara even more. :D
I think I had a bit too much fun with that sentry bot.

Date: 2011-05-03 06:04 pm (UTC)Raven and Wren make me giggle aloud. They are wonderfully humorous. And I loved that key shot by the way. *laughs*
And I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Clara on the floor. XD I know it was just because she was caught off guard...but it was nice to see someone get one on her.
Thank you!

Date: 2011-05-03 08:49 pm (UTC)I think it was necessary to have light hearted chapters like this. Things may potentially get a tad heavy in these next few chapters (not crushing-human-drama level mind you, but a little more serious).
This was all my pleasure, thank *you* for reading. :D

Date: 2011-05-04 01:57 am (UTC)I really enjoyed the antics! It made me laugh when Wren was all "DEFEAT THE GUARDS!" It really made him seem like such a dreamer.
The whole thing was awesome. I'm excited for the spin-off. =) It's nice to know Melody has the interests of the CC community at heart.
Also. My simself. She is famous. No autographs, please. ;-)

Just loved this!

Date: 2011-05-04 10:57 pm (UTC)It remains to be seen if Wren and Raven will be believed, though given Jasmine's state of mind about Clara already, chances are she would. ;)
As always, thank you so much!

Date: 2011-05-05 05:35 am (UTC)Though I hope Clara doesn't figure out who her attackers were, they may be teenagers on adventures but she's serious beezneez. Love Melody's part as well!
I wonder who's in the urn too :)

Date: 2011-05-05 12:06 pm (UTC)And Melody? She's simply gorgeous! I hope that soon the terrible duo will become a terrific trio :D
Thank you for the cameo of Tsukino ^_^ The first time I introduced her in my story, she was wearing the private school uniform :)
It's a little weird seeing her flirting with a guy, but it makes perfectly sense with my story, because she's actually a bi (at the moment married with a woman!)
